The Climate Trust is currently soliciting high quality greenhouse gas offset projects. For consideration of offset funding, project developers should submit a completed Offset Project Proposal Form. The Climate Trust will assess submitted proposals on an ongoing basis and anticipates funding projects in 2008. Project developers will be contacted within two months about the status of their submission.
Funding for the Open Solicitation has been provided by regulated Oregon power plant owners, Large Emitter Partners, organizations, businesses and individuals. The requirements and preferences that will guide The Climate Trust's assessment of project proposals are outlined below:
Requirements for Project Acquisition
All Offset Project Proposals must meet the following requirements:
reduce or avoid at least 50,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions over the contract term.
sell their emission reductions for up to 15 years. Shorter project terms are preferable.
reduce carbon dioxide. Due to regulatory restrictions, non-CO2 emission reduction projects are not eligible.
have not yet been implemented and will not be implemented until after a purchase agreement is executed.
are not large-scale hydroelectric or nuclear electricity generation.
Preferences for Project Acquisition
The Climate Trust has a preference for:
Direct emission reduction projects which reduce or avoid greenhouse gas emissions at the project location. Sectors which produce direct emission reductions include transportation, fuel switching, material substitution, boiler efficiency/upgrades, etc.
Projects which occur in the United States.
The Climate Trust is less interested in:
Indirect emission reduction projects, such as those which cause an emission reduction to occur off-site at power plants on the electricity grid. Current restrictions on indirect emission projects are due to unresolved issues of double counting under a future cap and trade system. Indirect emission reductions often result from renewable energy and grid connected energy efficiency projects.
Biological sequestration projects. The Climate Trust strives to maintain a balanced offset portfolio and biological sequestration currently constitutes a large percentage of our portfolio.
International projects which occur outside of the United States.
