Project Requirements

The Climate Trust is seeking projects for NW Natural's Smart Energy program that meet the following requirements:

  • Meet either The Climate Trust or a credible third party additionality standard such as the Climate Action Reserve, Gold Standard or Voluntary Carbon Standard.

About Smart Energy

Smart Energy is a voluntary offset program through NW Natural. It allows the customers to offset greenhouse gas emissions associated with natural gas use, through innovative clean energy projects. Smart Energy focuses on high quality offset projects such as the development of biogas, where cow manure is removed from the ground and turned into energy.

The Climate Trust worked with NW Natural on program design, helped achieve program approval by the Oregon Public Utilities Commission, and is responsible for biogas offset project acquisition.
