Mike Burnett
Executive Director

Mike is an environmental engineer with thirty years of executive, management, policy, and technical experience in climate change, energy efficiency, renewable resources, and power planning. As the Trust's initial Executive Director, Mike took the organization through its start up phase. He works with the Board on strategic planning for the Trust, oversees the development of annual work plans and budgets, and manages the staff to meet the work plans.

Mike is an active participant in the national and international policy debate regarding GHG mitigation. He currently serves on the Global Warming Advisory Group appointed by Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski.

Before coming to The Climate Trust, Mike was a Vice President for Trexler and Associates, a climate change mitigation consulting firm, where he prepared corporate climate change strategies for multinational corporations and conducted feasibility studies for carbon offset projects. Before that, he was the founding CEO of a consortium of public power utilities in Washington State that conducted the largest municipal bond sale to date ($38 million) for energy conservation and sited a wind project. He has also worked in energy conservation, renewable energy, and power planning for two utility trade associations, Bonneville Power Administration, the Western Solar Utilization Network, and the National Park Service.

Mike earned an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Florida.

Sean Clark
Director of Offset Programs

Sean Clark has been with The Climate Trust since 2003 and has been working in the field of climate and atmosphere policy issues for more than twelve years. While at The Climate Trust, Sean has overseen more than $4 million worth of offset project acquisitions. As the Director of Offset Programs, Sean is responsible for offset project acquisitions and The Climate Trust’s various policy initiatives. In addition, Sean directs the organization’s business development activities.

Prior to joining The Climate Trust, Sean was with Trexler and Associates (TAA), a climate change consulting company with a focus on working with private sector companies to address their risk to the climate change issue. While at TAA, Mr. Clark was involved in a variety of carbon market projects and programs including the launch of a Canadian company’s carbon market business strategy and the development of an Africa-based carbon fund. Mr. Clark also functioned as TAA’s representative to the international climate change negotiations. Other client work included: TransAlta Corporation, PSEG, United Nations Development Program, Reliant Energy, MidAmerican, and the U.S. EPA.

Prior to TAA, Mr. Clark was a program consultant with UNDP’s Energy and Atmosphere Program based at their headquarters in New York.

Sean earned a M.A. in International Affairs at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. He received his B.A. at Claremont McKenna College.

Craig Diamond
Director of Strategy and Operations

Craig Diamond joined the Climate Trust in February 2007.  He has 15 years of broad environmental and energy management experience in a variety of technical, policy, and research organizations.  At the Climate Trust, Craig is responsible for strategy, organizational development, marketing & communications, and operations. He also provides managerial support and oversight to the organization's policy activities.

Prior to coming to the Climate Trust, Craig was Principal of Diamond Strategies, which provided consulting services in the areas of climate change, energy, and sustainability.  Before founding Diamond Strategies, Craig spent five years at the Environment Division of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) where he was responsible for new program development and strategic planning for EPRI’s $40 million environmental research program.  He spearheaded public-private partnerships involving major electric utilities, the U.S. Department of Energy, and other stakeholders.

Prior to EPRI, Craig was a leader in the development and implementation of environmental management systems.  He helped Fortune 500 companies achieve certification to the ISO 14001 standard, and developed national demonstration programs in partnership with the U.S. EPA.  Before his work on environmental management systems, Craig worked for the World Wildlife Fund and the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable in Washington, D.C.  Craig holds a Master of Public Policy from the University of Michigan, and an undergraduate degree in Biology from Tufts University.

Maggie Albertson
Office Manager

Maggie joined The Climate Trust in August 2007 and brings 30 years of bookkeeping and office management experience to our organization. The scope of Maggie’s work will include day-to-day accounting tasks as well as preparation of financial reports, budget preparation and monitoring, human resources, and general management of The Climate Trust office. Maggie’s extensive office and accounting training has come through employment in varied settings from the travel industry to secondary education to garment manufacturing.

Maggie holds a B.A. in Psychology from Seattle University.

Lucy Brehm
Senior Manager, Business Development

Lucy joined The Climate Trust in December 2007 as a Senior Manager whose focus will include helping individuals, businesses and other large organizations to offset their carbon footprint. Lucy has over 20 years of experience in law and business. Prior to joining The Climate Trust, Lucy was a Senior Vice President and Sustainability Officer for ShoreBank Pacific, a commercial bank focused on sustainable community development. Her work focused on outreach to depositors and helping commercial borrowers understand their impact on the community, economy and the environment.

Lucy has a B.A. in History from the University of Washington and a J.D. from Lewis and Clark Law School. She is a member of the bars of the Territory of Guam (inactive) and Oregon.

Erica Keeley
Offset Portfolio Manager

Erica joined The Climate Trust in 2001.  As the Offset Portfolio Manager, Erica's primary responsibilities include recruiting and evaluating greenhouse gas offset projects, drafting and negotiating new Emissions Reduction Purchase Agreements (ERPAs), and managing the Trust’s existing offset portfolio.  During her time at the Trust, Erica has negotiated the purchase of $3.4 million of carbon dioxide offsets.

Previously, Erica served as Trust’s Program and Operations Manager, where she managed the organization's financial operations, tracked the performance of offset projects, and managed the Trust's communications outreach.  Erica also supported the development and implementation of the Trust's Greenhouse Gas Offset Partnership Program.

Prior to joining the Trust, Erica was the head of the Superfund Amendment and Reauthorization Act (SARA) Division at United States Compliance Corporation.  As an environmental consultant, Erica assisted manufacturing facilities nationwide in complying with federal and state environmental regulations.  

Erica holds a B.A. in Economics and Environmental Studies from St. Olaf College.

Alexia Kelly
Policy Analyst

Alexia Kelly joined The Climate Trust in 2006.  As The Climate Trust’s Policy Analyst, Alexia’s responsibilities include tracking and analyzing developments in the climate change policy arena and in the greenhouse gas offset market, preparing policy statements, comments and white papers on a range of topics, and providing consultation to policy makers.  In addition to her policy activities, Alexia assists with a variety of consulting projects and participates in the acquisition and contract management of the Trust’s offset projects. 

Alexia has a background in community/regional planning and public policy and administration.  Prior to joining the Trust, she worked as a Project Manager for the Community Planning Workshop in Eugene, Oregon.  As Project Manager she oversaw the development of strategic plans, market and economic analyses, feasibility studies and stakeholder outreach processes. Prior to working with the Community Planning Workshop, Alexia managed and conducted the update of two municipalities’ Comprehensive Land Use Plans, which encompassed demographic, land use and economic analyses. 

Alexia holds a B.A. in Planning, Public Policy and Management from the University of Oregon. She also holds a Master’s in Public Administration and Master’s in Community and Regional Planning, from the University of Oregon.

Becky Ostrom
Administrative Assistant

Becky joined The Climate Trust in 2007. As The Climate Trust’s Administrative Assistant, her duties include assisting with staff scheduling and event arrangements, managing the office calendar and contacts databases, support with financial tracking, and assisting with general office maintenance and communications. Becky has a strong administrative background through office experience in a variety of different fields.

Becky holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Oregon.

Peter Weisberg
Offset Project Analyst
Peter joined The Climate Trust in October 2007. He supports The Climate Trust’s ongoing project acquisition and consulting efforts by evaluating potential greenhouse gas offset projects.

Prior to joining The Climate Trust team, Peter did a year-long internship as a research analyst for EcoSecurities. His undergraduate senior thesis evaluated the effectiveness of Kyoto’s Clean Development Mechanism as a tool for greenhouse gas emission mitigation in countries with rapidly growing economies. This topic was inspired by two international internships with the United-States China Environmental Fund and Periodico INTAG, an environmental newspaper in a rural cloud forest in Ecuador.

Sheldon Zakreski
Senior Program Manager

Sheldon Zakreski has been with The Climate Trust since March 2008. Sheldon has more than eleven years of environmental policy and management experience with a focus on energy, climate, air and forestry issues. Sheldon oversees the development and execution of the Trust’s corporate and voluntary offset programs on behalf of private and public sector organizations.

Prior to joining The Climate Trust, Sheldon worked for Metafore, a non-profit that informs corporate buyers of the environmental aspects of their wood and paper purchasing practices. He was responsible for the development of many of Metafore’s advisory services offerings including conducting sustainability seminars and evaluating the environmental performance of pulp and paper mills. He recently authored two reports on the greenhouse gas emissions of the paper supply chain.

Sheldon also worked as a policy analyst at Trexler and Associates. He developed a carbon offset pricing forecast model and evaluated carbon offset projects in the biomass, forestry, renewable energy and agricultural sectors.

Sheldon has a M.A. in economics from the University of Victoria (British Columbia). He earned a B.A. in economics from the University of Saskatchewan.
